a posteriori is the debut album by electroacoustic composer-improviser Gabby Wen. It is a selection of Gabby's genreless sound works between 2016 to 2021. With a variety of raw materials used in these compositions, ranging from field recording during travels, audible electromagnetic signals, harsh noise, feedback, stochastic rhythms, to improvisations on guqin (Chinese seven-string zither), folk song, and poetry, Gabby braided them into aural compositions of profound physical memories, sceneries in Kunqu opera scripts, and reflections on upbringing under an authoritarian regime, ancestry, native land, and diaspora. Widely and wildly ranged in dynamics and energy, these tracks juxtapose each other, resulting from Gabby's extensive musical influences and curiosities, and knowledge acquired from observing and internalizing human experiences.

"The paradox of an infinite string of unique moments informing the repetitive nature of being. The Unification of Inner and Outer Life as the last track’s title suggests? That’s probably impossible. But this album might help getting closer to that goal. Music triggering the weight and scale of the human experience."
